I must admit that I was slow when it came to the whole twitter phenomenon and the success of it. I thought that the site looked cheap.
I also thought the whole thing didn’t make sense. I’m referring to marketing with it. You only get to make blog posts of 140 characters.
I also thought about this, why would strangers want to follow me? Especially people who were interested in my niche market. I didn’t have any clue how I would find these people, to me they were just random people.
Think about untargeted traffic. When I first started out online, years ago, I just thought traffic was traffic. These huge numbers these people were putting up were mainly hype, to sell a product, it was totally untargetted and virtually useless.
It just didn’t make any sense to me. What happened was that people started to put together some wonderful twitter resources, some wonderful twitter software and trust more smart marketers using twitter. It also just kept getting bigger and bigger and more and more popular.
Twitter Resources
This a section that is geared towards arming you with twitter resources that you should be using, in order to, make your twitter experience better and more profitable. There are a ton of different resources to use here, pick and choose what you want.
The First Resource:
There is just a wealth of knowledge about twitter on here. It is tough to really describe all of the information on that site, but simply put, it keeps you up to date on all things twitter.
I’ve been able to find so much valuable information on twitter, using this site. It is just a wonderful resource that I refer to, often. Just don’t spend too much time on the site because it can be addicting!
The Second Resource:
This is actually two different resource pages on the same site. They come from a social media guide called mashable.

http://mashable.com/2008/05/24/14-more-twitter-tools/

Promoting Yourself on Twitter
I’m going to cover this as quickly as possible. You want to use your real name as your user name. You want a picture of yourself. You want to fill out your mini-bio and put up a link to your website or blog.
I recommend building a mailing list through twitter. So, make sure to have an auto responder service and something free to offer to get people to sign up. Free information report or newsletter. Set up a good sequence of messages.
Also, remember not to over promote yourself. People want to follow you the person and not just get pitched to, all of the time. I would say 80% non promotion posts to 20% promotion posts is a good ratio.
Getting Followers in Your Niche Market
I’m also going to cover this pretty quickly, as well. One of the problems that I and others saw a problem with marketing on twitter was getting untargeted people to follow us.
If you’re getting untargeted people to follow you and your niche market, you just won’t see much traffic because most people won’t care about your business. If you are going to get a lot of traffic from twitter, you’re going to need to get people who are passionate about or at least interested in your niche.
One way to do that is to follow the people that are following a famous person in your niche or a business in your niche. These people are more than likely interested in your niche market and possibly very passionate about it.
You follow them and hopefully they follow you back and most people will. You have that common interest and people are always looking to learn more about that niche and network and connect and build relationships with like minded individuals.
Examples:
Make Money Online Niche – Gurus
Recipes – Famous Chefs
Fishing – Pro Fisherman
Etc.
Need Some Inspiration?
Everyone needs some inspiration sometimes. Life can be tough and making money online isn’t always a picnic. One of the best ways to cheer yourself up is to meet new people online and make new friends.
That is one of the great things about twitter. Once you get a good list of online friends, you can send out a tweet saying that you’re having a bad day and they will cheer you up or you can always ask for some advice.
I never dreamed that when I started out online that I would meet so many wonderful people who have done so much for me. Some of my best friends are people that I would of never of met if it wasn’t for The Internet.
Some of them live half-ways across the globe. Start twittering and I wish you nothing but the best and hope that you build a ton of lasting relationships and build your business through twitter.
