Information product creation is the best way to make money online. The earning potential for just one product is through the roof! There have been people who have wrote one product and have made a million dollars from it. You will have this product to sell for the rest of your life.
Not only do you use the product to sell to customers and make money, but it’s a powerful resource, that can be used to improve your bottom line in a lot of ways. You can use your products to gain a reputation, that gives you a lot of credibility.
You can also use an information product to build a power mailing list, which is a great way to make money. If you get enough products you can open up a membership site and offer your products to these members for free. You simply charge them a monthly fee, having a membership site is a huge, huge money maker, if done correctly.
This guide is going to go over the entire writing process, starting with finding a niche market, outlining your product, the writing process and some other topics will be covered. I’m not including a ton of information on finding niches and techniques for building your list.
All of this information comes from a person that has created my own products for years and has made a fortune doing it. I’m a very good writer, but I’m not Ernest Hemingway, writing your own information products, isn’t as hard as people think. You don’t have to be a great writer to be a great information product creator.
Finding a good niche market to write about is vitally important.
You are toeing a fine line. You don’t want to write in a niche market that has too much competition and yet, you don’t want to write about a niche market that doesn’t have enough potential customers.
The first thing that you need to figure out is if you’re going to sell your products and build a mailing list at the same time. If you’re planning on doing this than you can’t just jump around from market to market. You can write about golf, then acne, then dating etc. You won’t be able to build a targeted mailing list doing this, obviously. If you don’t plan on building a list, then you can do this.
If you’re going to build a mailing list or list’s, you should try and concentrate on one market or market’s. Don’t be afraid of a market, just because it is a very big market. You can break a huge market down into niches and sub-niches.
If you’re new or even if you’re not new to product creation, you should write about what you know. For one it is easy to write about something you know about. For another it pretty much eliminates the need for doing any research on the subject.
Always remember to research your competition before you start writing. You can do Google searches or you can go to marketplaces like www.clickbank.com and www.paydotcom.com and see what products are selling well in your niche.
See what their sales page looks like. That is very important, you can learn a lot from a successful sales page. Look at what they’re selling audio, video or plain text. Also look at their price point. You need to know what to charge or at least be in the ballpark.
Decide how you’re going to get traffic to your sales page. If you’re going to rely on search engine optimization, then keywords is going to be important in the articles that you write to promote your product. This is important because if you’re relying on search engine optimization, then you are going to have to research search results and what not.
I don’t like relying on search engine optimization for getting traffic to my sales page. There are a couple of reasons for this. One is that a sales page has very little content compared to web sites that are devoted to that market or niche. You really won’t have much of a chance, as content goes. Another reason is that if I want traffic from a search engine, I will pay for it. I will use pay-per click advertising to get traffic to my sales page.
Another reason is that there are so many other ways to get traffic to your sales page, besides search engine optimization. You can write articles and put a link in the bio box to your sales page. You can do joint ventures with people who have a list, they send a link to your sales page in a message to their list. You might have a mailing list in this market and you send them a message with a link to your sales page, there are many other ways to get traffic.
The process after you have found a niche market to write about and before you start the actual writing of the product
There are still questions that need to be answered. If you think that there are going to be a lot of competition in your niche market, there is something that you can do to appeal to a new audience of buyers.
You can offer Private Label Rights to your product. PLR is simply giving your buyers the right to change, edit or modify your product. They can put their name in the by-line and resell it, use it for content, break it into articles etc.
You appeal to two types of buyers, right away. You appeal to people who want to learn about your niche because they need information. You also appeal to even experts in your market because they are always looking for PLR rights to products in their market. They will use your product in any number of ways.
So, you have to decide if you’re going to give PLR rights or keep all of the rights yourself. Then you’re going to have to decide if you want this product to sell for a real long time or more of a short-term money maker. The downside to giving PLR rights is that you won’t be able to sell that product for a long time period. I think that new people should always write a few products with PLR rights to get their feat wet. I’ve been running a lot of WSO’s with PLR rights, to help people understand that they can do this successfully.
You’re also going to have to come up with an outline of your writing project. This is important because once you start writing, you don’t want to stop for any reason. You want a detailed outline there, in place, for you to follow. After all of the brainstorming is out of the way, the writing comes a lot easier.
I’m not just talking about putting a few chapters up and calling that an outline. You should put up sub-chapters, within each chapter and have ideas brainstormed within each chapter. This will eliminate the premise of you forgetting something to put into your product and one idea can be worth a thousand words.
You should keep a couple of things in mind. One is to keep the writing simple.
The first thing that I am going to tell you is not to worry about how long you want your product to be. Follow your outline and your brainstormed ideas. Just get into a rhythm and start writing. Length doesn’t have anything to do with quality. If you can say something in 5,000 words or in 10,000 words, it doesn’t matter, content is king!
When you’re writing information products, you should keep a couple of things in mind. One is to keep the writing simple. Don’t use big, long, fancy words that the average person won’t understand, they don’t want to stop reading and have to look up the meaning of words. It’s not like writing entertainment books that you would go to the book store and buy. The people want information.
Another reason that you want to keep the language basic is because of language barriers. I’m from the United States, but I have people from all over the world buy my products. English might be their second or third language, keep that in mind.
They want either to improve themselves and their talents or get a solution to a problem. That is why you must also keep in mind that you want to get to the point. Take a direct writing style and don’t mess around, just get to the point. This will make the writing go a lot easier.
I’ve gone stretches where I’ve wrote 5,000 words on one sitting in a matter of hours. If you keep these things in mind and get into a rhythm, you would be amazed at what you can accomplish. I remember getting book reports or essay’s assigned to me when I was in school, they wanted 2,000 words by the next day and I was like, that’s crazy. I didn’t approach writing the right way.
For one you have to go into the writing process with a positive attitude. Know that you can accomplish this and that it won’t take nearly as long as you think. Just start to write. Think about all of that money that you’re going to make off this product.
Try and put yourself in a comfortable environment, that works for you. Everyone is different, some people have to have it quiet, well then get to a quiet place away from the distractions. I like to have a movie going when I write. It just helps me think. So, whatever works for you, do it.
Another thing that you should do is get yourself in the right mindset as to how long you’re going to write. Some people like to just sit down and try and finish the writing in one grueling session. Some people like to write for little amounts of time and take frequent breaks.
What I do, and I would advise you to do the same, is to do what feels right. If I get into a good rhythm, I go until either I’m done or I fall out of rhythm. If I’m having trouble thinking, then I take a break and go for a walk or take shower or go for a drive, whatever helps me think. Then I come back to the computer full of good new ideas. It doesn’t do any good to sit there and stare at a blank screen.
You should change your lifestyle as a writer. Some people go through distractions all day. To cut back on this, go out and try and get everything done at one time. That way you can clear a good chunk of time to devote to writing. The worst thing is to get into rhythm and get interrupted and then when you come back, you can’t get going again.
If you’re like me, you don’t like the editing process. I love the writing process, but I hate the editing process. It’s not that I have bad grammar, it’s just a boring thing to do. If you don’t like to edit, you can always outsource this process and pay someone else to do it for you.
I seldom do this because I don’t write real long products, that much anymore. I can usually get through this process relatively quickly. I guess that way, I don’t have to worry about finding someone that is dependable and does a good job.
Writing Sales Letter Process
I’m not going to go into the whole writing sales copy process because this guide is focused on product creation. I will give you some hints and ideas of what to do and the key points to success.
The first thing that you must do is to get people’s attention. I don’t care how you do it, as long as it is ethical. You don’t want to upset anyone right away. There has to be truth in your attention grabbing headline. After you have your main headline, have a shorter second headline right afterwards that is smaller.
The next thing that you should do is either introduce yourself and tell them how you can help them or give them an inspiration story related to the product or market that you’re in. People love hearing stories of other people who have had their terrible problem solved.
Remember to always offer a money back guarantee. You will get some refund requests, but in the end the sales that you get from offering one is way more valuable to you than not offering one. It also makes a person feel good, knowing that everyone liked your product and nobody felt like they were ripped off.
The most important part of the sales copy process is the testing after you have finished. One change can make all the difference in the world. You could be losing so much money by not testing your sales page. Yet, there are plenty of people out there that just write their sales page and just move on and forget about it.
The biggest thing is that you at least test your main headline. That is the hook and you better make sure people are taking it. Come up with three different headlines that are different and test all three of them. When you find the best one, then stick with it.
The other main thing that you should test is the price point. This can be a huge factor. You might be pricing your product too high, people just aren’t convinced enough by the sales page and the product. This can work both ways, you might be pricing the product too low, the perceived value effect.
There are other things that you can test like the headlines and placement of testimonials etc. I just test the main headline and the price point. There is one more thing that I test that is very effective. I use scarcity. It is very powerful if used correctly.
I will tell the potential buyers that there are only a certain number left at this price and then it goes up. You can also say that you are going to be pulling one or more of your bonuses. Now, make sure that you are not lying to them. When you say something and when that number hits what you say, then you take action and do what you told them you’re going to do.
