The first thing that you need to do is get a Business or Premier paypal account.  You need to verify bank information and fill out some information.  You have to have this to accept payments.

Once you have that done, while you’re logged in and on the main page click on the tab where it says merchant services.  You will see a section where it says create buttons, under that there is a link to subscribe.  Click on that.

Make sure that the subscriptions and recurring billing is check.  For the item name, just put your membership name or something similar.  You can then customize the appearance.  I have graphic design guys come up with graphics for my payment buttons and link to them, but you can use the basic button.

Your membership site creator should be set up to let them pick their login and password so leave that box empty, you shouldn’t need paypal to create user names or passwords.  Then put in the amount you charge and how often they are billed, the standard is one month.  If it is every month for life, then leave the box empty.

You can leave the next option as yes and the next box open if you aren’t offering a trial period.  Then you can keep the next area checked yes.  You shouldn’t have to worry about the tracking section.

Click on the last section customized advanced features.  You shouldn’t need their mailing address if you are delivering their content to their e-mail address or through your web site. 

You can put a link to your sales page if they decide to cancel the order, it will give them another chance at completing the transaction.  If you want to take them to a specific page after completing the transaction, like the sign up page, then specify. 

That is it, click on create your button.  Then you copy and past the code and put it on your sales page and you have yourself a payment button and the rest of it is hands off, paypal will automatically bill them each time that you have specified.

The one problem is that you have to keep your members happy if you want to get that recurring income.  Now, after you’ve been an Internet Marketer for awhile and have had some customers, you’ll realize that you can never please everyone. 

The whole key is to please as many of these members as possible.  In this article I’ll examine how to do this.  One sale can result in many.  I’ve had members of one of my membership sites for almost two years now.  That means that every month for almost two years, they have paid me.  That is pretty impressive if a person thinks about it.

The first thing that you need to do is have great customer service.  That is a big one.  Not many members will put up with bad customer service.  Try to get back to them when they e-mail you, within 24 hours, if not sooner.  People will appreciate that.  If you need to outsource it, then go ahead and do it, even if it is for an hour or two a day.

I take the attitude that I work for my members.  I know that we don’t want to work for anyone, but I like to do everything that I can to work for them.  They don’t boss me around or tell me what to do, but I want to work for them to ensure that they have a great experience.

Always be polite and courteous, even to members who cancel their membership.  We all have our bad days, but don’t take it out on any of your members, even if they’re a little rude.  Also, always be nice to members who cancel.  They may decide to rejoin your site at a later time. 

Word also spreads, especially online.  You definitely don’t want to get a bad reputation.  You don’t want people to not join your site because you get a reputation of being a jerk to your members. 

Always provide quality content to your members.  You have to focus on giving them good content and make sure that it is very high in quality.  Your members crave good, new and unique content.  Keep delivering and they will keep coming back for more.

One is to have different price points for different levels of the membership site. An example would be gold being the highest and most expensive, silver being in the middle and bronze being the most basic and the cheapest.
This can be effective, but it is going to be more work. You have to juggle three different levels of content. You have to decide what content to release to each level and that can be a pain, but it can also be more lucrative.

Another way of pricing a membership site is to give them payment options. They can pay a large sum, up front or pay a much smaller amount over time. I see that some sites employ this method, I’m just not a big fan of it.
I like the idea of getting recurring monthly income over and over again. That is one of the main reasons why I run membership sites. If I want to charge a high up front amount, I will create an information product or course or something like that.

The general rule is to price it what you think it is worth. Don’t cheat yourself if you think that it is worth more. I will tell you that a smart thing to do is to give the first members to join your site, a special low price. This will give you something to build on and gives you the ability to use urgency and scarcity tactics on your sales page. You can always keep providing more and more content and raise the price. This will also give you and opportunity to set up an affiliate program.

The best thing to do is to experiment for yourself and to ask the members that you have. Ask them if they would be willing to pay more per month. I don’t suggest raising the price for them, let them continue to pay what they are, but you can always ask and get their opinion for future members.

You can always split test to see how your sales page converts with different price points. Don’t be afraid to raise your prices, if you feel it is worth it, your conversions may even be higher when you raise the price. You just never know until you split test for yourself.

If you have no experience with membership sites or you aren’t a technical person then I suggest you start with a very simple and easy to use software and one that is cheap. It doesn’t do you any good to have this expensive software with all of these bells and whistles that you won’t use or know how to use.

You can always upgrade to a more powerful software, that has more features if you want to in the future. The way to be successful in life and online is to take action and get started and launch your own membership site.

I just come across a website where people are talking how hard it is flip sites right now. Market is saturated. Then recession is here. You need unique and expensive content and so on and on. Hundreds of excuses why their websites don’t sell.

I’m in this website flipping business for a long time now and my sites still sell. Ok, I have to adjust my business from time to time, but there is no problem for me to sell my websites.

I did small experiment to show you how you can make at least $50 of profit from simple site you can put together in three or four hours anytime you want.

So what I did? I built small membership site using only free and PLR content.

I registered domain name with namecheap.com and setup hosting account on resellerzoom.com (I have used their budget account for $6.95 …you can put up to 20 sites on one account). Next step was to get content for my membership site. I have a lot of PLR content sitting on my computer hard drive. So, I choose 20 articles about how to make money at home niche. I took first 10 articles import them into Open Office Writer (it is free software) and make a little 20 pages ebook from them. It took me no more than 10 minutes to do that. I convert my little book into pdf format using Open Office again to do that. Next thing I did was ebook cover. I used photoshop to did it, but you can use any other free or paid software to create that tiny graphic.

Next step was creating members folder on my server using cpanel feature on resellerzoom server and upload ebook pdf file into that folder.

Now it is time to create a membership site. I built my membership site with XSitePro software, but you can build yours any other way you want. You can build it using wordpress. Just be sure to install wordpress into members folder. I use XSitePro because it is very easy to create any website and it comes with a lot of great templates built in.

All you need to build a membership site is ten articles and 5 videos which you will get for free. I will tell you about it in a minute.

I created the following pages for my membership site: Member Area (home page), Download, Contact Us, Videos and 10 article pages .

In the Member Area page you put welcome message and link to Download page. On download page you put links which point to your articles, image of your ebook with download link and link to your Videos page. Now, here is how to get your videos… go to Youtube and choose 5 videos you want to use and insert embed codes you get from Youtube on your Videos page.

Get few great free images from any free images site (jupiterimages.com is one of them) and add these images to your pages.

That is it, you are done.

Upload all what you already made to members folder.

Now it is the time to create sales letter. You can write it yourself or use like I did one from yours PLR packages you bought (I hope you keep them somewhere on your hard disk). Don’t forget to add link to your member login page. Again use few great free images and when you are done upload it on your root folder on your server. (not in members folder)

Now you have to protect member area. I use membershipease software to do that. If you don’t own this software already search google and you will find one for less than $10. You don’t have to install anything. You will do it all on your computer and software will do the rest. It is very easy to use and anybody can use it.

I can build site like this one in less than two hours. It will take you more in the beginning, but after you build your first membership site you will see that it is not hard to do it at all.

So, I put that site on SitePoint auction and set BIN price at $70. Site was sold in less than one hour. And not just that. I got two other people asking me if I can build similar membership site for them which I did same day and sent them site next day.

I made $210 from these three sites altogether. I paid around 30 dollars for three domain names. I used my resellerzoom hosting, so I didn’t have to pay for hosting. But, anyway it will cost you around $6.95 to get hosting for 20 of your sites.

In the end I put $180 into my pocket for a six hours of work.

I did it many times before and I will do it again because it works.

The best way to create a membership site is to use a script. The best script is the one that can handle payments, customer sign ups and one that is automated. The one that springs into mind is Amember because it is one of the most powerful membership scripts out there that can do everything. However, the only downside of Amember is that you cannot host unlimited domain names. Nevertheless, hands down this is the best membership script out there.

Setting up a membership site requires a lot of research and patience. The best way to do this is to research your market. Find out what people will be prepared to pay for. For example, will your website contain a forum where people can interact? Will your membership site provide support to people? The information in your membership site has to be of highest value so your prospects can keep paying you on a monthly basis.

Finally, membership sites are nothing new. Magazine companies and other companies are making recurring income from their subscribers by offering high quality products and information. If you are serious about making money and increasing your profits then I highly recommend you start your own membership site.
